We are a strong coalition of Alaskans seeking to improve the environment, save energy, improve the economy, and enhance the quality of life for Alaskans by building a road from Juneau to Haines and Skagway – a road to the future.
We invite you to learn more and to join us!
In August, 2011, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a decision virtually stopping construction of the road project. Despite urgings to appeal the decision by CPR and other interest groups, in September, 2011, the Parnell administration announced plans not to appeal, but instead to developing a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the project that would address the Court’s concerns.
“The Juneau Access project is a critical infrastructure project for Juneau and Southeast Alaska. It’s time to move it ahead,” Governor Parnell said. “The project will increase transportation capacity and reduce travel time and cost in the region, particularly for travel between the Lynn Canal communities of Juneau, Haines, Skagway, and Alaskans travelling on the road system.”
Of course we are disappointed, but CPR knows it is even more important than ever that you stay involved throughout the State supplemental EIS process by letting the state know you support the road alternative.
Citizens Pro Road is continuing its grassroots efforts to educate the public about the benefits of road access to the Capital City. Here is one important step you can take NOW. The State is updating its Southeast Alaska Transportation Plan.
